The Galactic Purple Tetra Glofish is a genetically modified tetra that is fluorescent purple in color and is 2.4 inches in size. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of six or more in a tank with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 and a temperature range of 68ºF to 78ºF. The tank should have dense vegetation, open areas for swimming, a cover, and a substrate of gravel or sand. They are omnivorous and should be fed with dried foods and live or frozen foods. To breed these fish in captivity, a group of 12, 6 of each sex, should be kept in a dimly lit tank with fine-leaved plants and a temperature range of 82ºF to 86ºF. The eggs take 18 to 36 hours to hatch, and the fry should be fed with infusoria type food in the first few days and microworm or brine shrimp once they are large enough. They originate from the Paraguay and Guapore basins in Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina and are best kept in a community aquarium with larger fish.
